$250,000 FOR GOLD COAST YOUTH INTERVENTION PROGRAM – ‘IT’S A WRAP’
11 April 2025
An elected Dutton Liberal National Government will help make the Gold Coast a safer place with a $250,000 commitment for an important early intervention youth program.
The funding, to be provided from a revitalised Safer Communities Fund (SCF), will be provided to the ‘It’s a Wrap’ program, which supports youth who are at risk of engaging in criminal or anti-social behaviour.
Federal Member for Moncrieff, Angie Bell MP, said this funding would help to ensure the Gold Coast community feels safe as they go about their daily lives.
“This funding is a direct response to the concerns raised by our community. I’ve heard firsthand from Gold Coast residents that safety is a priority, and we’re responding with practical intervention measures to help preserve public safety for everyone,” Ms Bell said.
“The ‘It’s a Wrap’ program, delivered by YHES House in Southport, is an early intervention and prevention initiative that targets high risk and disengaged youth.
“Throughout the program, these young people aged 12-24 develop educational and vocational skills that prevent them from becoming entrenched in the criminal justice system, while promoting inclusion and building community resilience.”
Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security, Senator James Paterson, said under a Dutton Liberal National Government, the Gold Coast community will be stronger, more secure, and better supported to tackle crime.
“Getting Australia back on track means keeping Australia safe – safe for families, safe for businesses, and safe for communities,” Senator Paterson said.
“Projects delivered under the Safer Communities Fund will help protect local communities by ensuring they have appropriate security infrastructure in place such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems and security lighting.”
