LABOR’S TRANSPARENCY CREDENTIALS CALLED INTO QUESTION

The Albanese Labor Government has once again used their super majority in the House of Representatives to arrogantly gag debate.

This time, on the important and complex Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act legislative reform package of 1,459 pages.

Leader of the House, Tony Burke moved a motion to ram the Bills through the House of Representatives preventing members of the opposition from asking detailed questions to the Minister.

The Shadow Minister for the Environment and Youth, Angie Bell said this government lacks the transparency credentials that Australians deserve.

“Australians deserve transparency, and they are rightly disappointed in a Government that prevents open debate,” Ms Bell said.

“The EPBC reform Bill package is complex and requires appropriate scrutiny.

“What does this Government have to hide by shutting down debate?”

This isn’t an isolated occurrence with the Government also preventing free and open debate to occur on the Freedom of Information Bill.

The Coalition encourages transparency because that’s what Australians deserve.
