Sports Minister caught rewriting history

Sports Minister Anika Wells has been caught rewriting history after claiming on national
television that she does not miss Parliament to attend major sporting events.
Speaking on Sky News this morning, the Minister said:
“I don’t make it to a lot of major sporting events… And as a general rule, I don’t miss
Parliament to hit major sporting events.”
Shadow Minister for Sport, Angie Bell said the Minister’s comments are impossible to
reconcile with the public record.
“In November 2022, the Sports Minister travelled to Qatar during the FIFA Men’s World Cup
while Parliament was sitting,” Ms Bell said.
“That trip was approved by the Prime Minister. Parliament was sitting. Those are the facts.
“The Minister’s own social media shows her attending FIFA World Cup matches and
hospitality functions in Qatar while Australians expected their representatives to be in
Canberra.
“This isn’t about whether ministers should represent Australia overseas, this is about
honesty.”
“When a Minister makes a public statement that is contradicted by the public record,
Australians deserve an explanation.
“You cannot tell Australians you don’t miss Parliament for major sporting events when you
travelled to the FIFA World Cup while Parliament was sitting.”
Ms Bell said the comments reflected a familiar pattern from the Albanese Government.
“Labor has developed a habit of saying whatever is politically convenient, regardless of the
facts.
“They promised Australians their power bills would fall by $275. Instead, families are paying
hundreds more.
“They promised there would be no changes to capital gains tax and negative gearing. Those
promises have since unravelled.”And now the Sports Minister wants Australians to believe she doesn’t miss Parliament to
attend major sporting events, despite the fact that she attended the FIFA World Cup in Qatar
while Parliament was sitting.
“How can Australians trust the Prime Minister and his Ministers with a track record of lies?”
