The Albanese Government has once again shown there is no plan to deliver real support for Gold Coasters at a time when many continue to face increased cost of living pressures. Gold Coasters know that despite the Treasurer’s spin, their bills continue to rise and prices for essential items continue to go up.
Less than 12 months since the Albanese Government’s ‘Cheaper Child Care’ policy came into play, and out of pocket costs have already risen by 7.1 per cent. According to CPI data released today by the ABS, out of pocket costs for early childhood education (ECE) increased by 3.9 per cent in the March 2024 quarter. Out of pocket costs also increased in the December 2023 quarter by 3.2 per cent.

All right, a little earlier than normal. We’re going to bring in our political panel for the day now joining us right here in the studio, Labor Frontbencher, Kristy McBain. Welcome, Kristy, and LNP Frontbencher Angie Bell, welcome back to you too, Angie.
Young people are being forgotten under Labor at both federal and state levels. Those bright young people that are doing everything right at school, at home and in their local communities have no one to fight for them and no one to stand up for them.
Youth crime is out of control in many parts of our country and more needs to be done to combat it. This week, the Federal Coalition introduced the Crimes and Online Safety Legislation Amendment (Combatting Online Notoriety) Bill 2024 into Parliament that seeks to crack down on youth crime by making it illegal to post social media material that glamorises violence and criminal activity.
SARAH CUMMING:
Federal Parliament is sitting this week. It may not come as a surprise that the cost of living is high on the agenda, power prices, housing supply and Australia’s supermarket duopoly has dominated the conversations this week.
The price of Australia’s favourite SUVs, utes and 4WDs will be jacked up by thousands of dollars under Labor’s proposed carbon tax on vehicles. Industry analysis of Labor’s family car tax predicts the cost of some popular models such as the Toyota Landcruiser could rise by as much as $25,000. Federal Member for Moncrieff, Angie Bell said Labor’s newest tax will put too many cars out of reach for families and tradies on the Gold Coast.
SARAH CUMMING:
The Federal Government’s overhaul of the stage three tax cuts have passed the Senate. The changes aimed to broaden the benefits of the original tax cuts halving the tax break offered to wealthier Australians but bolstering the benefit for those on lower incomes. Federal Member for Moncrieff, Angie Bell joins you on the phone this morning. Hello, Angie.
